Worship at St. Michael can be characterized as traditional but with an openness to explore and a willingness to implement new liturgies and music without disrupting the heritage of our Lutheran tradition.
We draw our liturgy and music from a variety of sources, such as the Lutheran Book of Worship, With One Voice, Evangelical Lutheran Worship, as well as the music libraries of GIA Publications and Oregon Catholic Press.
• REGULAR Worship Schedule
During September through May, we worship on Sunday mornings at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. using a traditional Lutheran liturgy. Hymns are taken from a variety of resources, including LBW, ELW, WOV, and Gather Comprehensive. All music is accompanied by organ or piano.
Sunday School is at 9:15 a.m. - Nursery care is provided for all services and Sunday School.
• SUMMER Worship Schedule
During the summer months (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend), we offer one Sunday morning worship service at 9:30 a.m. with child care provided. Sunday school is not in session during the summer. During the summer, we use familiar worship settings taken from the Lutheran Book of Worship and the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal.
Holy Communion is celebrated on the first & third Sundays of the month and at all festivals.
No Sunday school
during the pandemic.
The Music …

Many music programs

All of God’s people have sung throughout recorded history. The Israelites sang after their deliverance from Egypt. David sang in time of trouble and rejoicing. Mary and Simeon sang songs of thanksgiving. John, on the island of Patmos, heard the glorious songs of the angels in his vision. You might say, “The story is a song to be sung”.
Music serves a variety of purposes. Music helps people who sing together remember their story, and the repeated memory of that common story binds together members of the group. Music helps people become one in identity and purpose. Because of music's ability to form the community, it has been a vital part of the Christian church over the centuries.
Music is God's creation. It is a gift to God's people to use in praise and adoration and in prayer. Music communicates and expresses faith in ways beyond mere words. For Martin Luther, music was a practical art closely tied to theology, to be used in the praise of God and in the proclamation of the Gospel.
At St. Michael, music functions not as an ornament or entertainment, but rather as an integral part of our faith journey. We hope you will join us as we seek to explore, experience and proclaim the good news of God in this place and to our community through the gift of music.
• The Matins Choir
This is a choir for all you early risers. It consists of adults and youth that sing for worship once a month at the 8:00 AM service. This group rehearses a simple anthem just prior to the service, at 7:20 AM. This group sits out in the congregation for the majority of the service, and comes up to the choir loft to sing an anthem during the service.
• Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is a group of adults (including High School youth) that sings for worship each Sunday morning at the 10:30 AM service. They rehearse Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30pm. With busy schedules, many of our ‘regulars’ are not able to rehearse and/or sing every week, so occasionally we have Sunday morning rehearsals.
• Genesis Ringers
A Children’s Choir that is a fun, activity-filled program for children in grades 2-5. A spirited time that includes ringing handbells, hand chimes, and some singing. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:15 PM.
• Vivace Youth Choir
The Vivace Choir is both a ringing and singing choir of 6th to 12th graders. This group rehearses Tuesdays at 6:15 PM, sings and rings regularly for worship, and participates in all the big music Sundays of the church year. Each summer, the Vivace Ringers spend a few days traveling to ring at a festival or a different church.
• Jubilation Ringers
Have you always wanted to learn to play the hand bells? If so, the “Jubilation Ringers Bell Choir” is for you! This popular choir meets on Thursday evenings, 6:15 - 7:30 p.m. to work on ensemble music. The choir performs rewarding and prayerful music one Sunday a month and on special occasions. We have just added two more octaves of bells to the bell choir, giving us five octaves in all! Music reading skills are needed in order to ring with this group.
• Summer Ringers and Singers
A summer "pick-up" choir! No need to think about an evening rehearsal—just show up on any of the several scheduled Sundays in the summer to sing or ring! Ringers and singers will come at 8:00 a.m. that Sunday morning and learn an easy piece to use during worship that morning. All are welcome!
• Music at St. Michael Concert Series
In 1999, we launched an exciting outreach of our congregation’s ministry: an annual series of concerts and recitals to be called Music at St. Michael. Our mission is to use the beautifully glorious acoustics of our sanctuary and provide an avenue to the arts for our community through the universal language of music. With the gifted talents of both professional and amateur performers, Music at St. Michael, presents five distinctive musical events each year.
